Council Chambers 10th June 1873.

Present the Mayor and Alderman Henderson, Galvin, Conley, Fallick, Bedford and Cozens.

Minutes:

The minutes of the previous meeting were read, and confirmed on the motion of Aldermen Cozens and Henderson.

Correspondence:

1. From Mrs Guy complaining of a nuisance adjoining her property.

2. From Mrs Hall complaining of a nuisance in the lane adjoining her property.

3 from Mr A. Richardson complaining of the state of the footpath in Maria Street opposite his residence.

The above letters were received and referred to the Committee for Works for their report.

4. From the Town Clerk, Sydney, informing the Council that the Government decline granting a piece of land near the Newtown Toll Bar, for the City Council to construct a reservoir thereon for the supply of Newtown with water.

Petition:

Alderman Henderson presented a petition from several ratepayers in Campbell Street asking the Council to perform certain Works in that Street and moved “that the same be received and referred to the Committee for Works for their report”. Seconded by Alderman Bedford and carried.

Report:

The Finance Committee brought up a report of accounts paid under votes of appropriation amounting to £189/13/0. Moved by Alderman Henderson, seconded by Alderman Fallick, “that the report be received and adopted”. Carried.

Motions pursuant to notice:

1. Moved by Alderman Bedford, seconded by Alderman Henderson, “that the sum of £15 be voted for Kerbing and Guttering portions of Richard and Bedford Streets”. Carried.

2. Moved by Alderman Bailey, seconded by Alderman Cozens, “that the sum of £300 be voted for blue metalling the Enmore Road, provided the Kingston and O’Connell Wards each give £50 and the Road Trust £100 towards the cost of the work”.

The Aldermen of the Kingston and O’Connell wards objected to expend any money raised in their respective Wards towards the cost of repairing the Enmore Road.

The motion was put and lost.

Council Chambers 24th June 1873.

Present the Mayor and Aldermen Bedford, Henderson, Goodsell, Conley, Cozens, Smith and Galvin.

Minutes:

The minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed on the motion of Aldermen Henderson and Bedford.

Correspondence:

1. Letter from Mr Carsen asking to explain before the Council his views on Street tramways. The Mayor read copy of a reply forwarded to Mr Carsen.

2. From the Marrickville Council adopting report, agreed to by this Council, respecting the boundary roads of the two Boroughs.

3. From Mr Dardier respecting the state of Bucknell Street.

4. From Mr Fowler on Camden Street.

5 from Mr E. R. Adams respecting the state of the drain opposite his residence.

6. From ratepayers in Camden respecting the outlet of the drains in that Street.

The last four letters were referred to the Committee for Works for their report.

Report:

The Committee for Works brought up a report recommending;

That the sum of £20 be voted towards the cost of Kerbing and Guttering and repairing a portion of Campbell Street.

That about 30 yards of Kerbing and Guttering be laid in Maria Street opposite Mr Richardson’s property.

That the footpath on the south side of Wells Street be formed, the watercourse on the north side to be cleaned out and the roadway to be formed, the whole to be done by contract.

Moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Bedford, “that the report be received and adopted”. Carried.

Motions pursuant to notice:

Moved by Alderman Henderson, seconded by Alderman Bedford, “that the sum of £20 be voted for purchasing blue metal to be used in the O’Connell Ward”. Carried.

Tenders for Kerbing and Guttering in Richard and Bedford Streets.

The Mayor reported that the Committee recommend the acceptance of Mr Selby’s tender to perform the whole of the work at five shillings and threepence per yard.

Report adopted on the motion of Aldermen Henderson and Bedford.
