Council Chambers 7th January 1873.

Present the Mayor, and Aldermen Henderson, Bedford, Goodsell, Smith, Conley and Hobbs.

Minutes:

The minutes of previous meeting were read, and confirmed on the motion of Aldermen Henderson and Smith.

Correspondence:

Letter from the Registrar General, asking for certain information respecting the Borough for the purpose of compiling the “statistical registrar”. Moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Henderson, “that the Clerk forward the information asked for”. Carried.

Report:

The Committee for Works brought up a report stating that Mr J. West has completed, in a satisfactory manner, his contract for Kerbing and Guttering on the Kingston Ward, and recommending that a portion of Richard Street be Kerbed and Guttered at a cost not exceeding £5; also that the lane between Regent and Wellington Streets be Kerbed and Guttered and the water diverted so as to run into Regent Street and not as at present through Mr Jones property. Moved by Alderman Bedford, seconded by Alderman Conley, “that the report be received and adopted”. Carried.

Returning officer:

Moved by Alderman Bedford, seconded by Alderman Henderson, “that Alderman Conley be appointed Returning Officer for the annual election of Aldermen and Auditors to be held in February next”. Carried unanimously.

Moved by Alderman Henderson, seconded by Alderman Bedford, “that the Mayor be authorised to affix the Corporate Seal to Mr A. Bedford’s deed of purchase of land at the intersection of Francis Street and Enmore Road”. Carried.

Railway bridge:

The Mayor, one of the deputation who waited upon the Hon the Secretary for Works respecting the completion of the Newtown railway bridge, reported that Mr Sutherland was favourably disposed to complete the bridge, and he promised to bring the matter before the Executive Council and would inform this Council through Mr S. C. Brown of the decision of the Government in the matter.

The Council rose.

Council Chambers 21st January 1873.

Present the Mayor and Alderman Bedford, Cozens, Conley, Smith, Goodsell, Henderson and Hobbs.

Revision Court at seven o’clock PM.

The Mayor laid on the table the Municipal Lists for the year 1873 — 1874, with applications for insertion therein.

Moved by Alderman Conley, seconded by Alderman Henderson, “that the names of 13 applicants for insertion in the Kingston Ward be allowed”. Carried.

One name was struck out from the Kingston Ward and two names from the O’Connell Ward Lists. The Mayor then signed the Lists and the Court rose.

Report:

The Finance Committee brought up a report of accounts paid under votes of appropriation amounting to £131/1/5, and recommending payment of accounts amounting to £58/11/1. Moved by Alderman Henderson, seconded by Alderman Goodsell, “that the report be received and adopted”. Carried.

Motion pursuant to notice:

Moved by Alderman Bedford, seconded by Alderman Henderson, “that the sum of £40 be voted to complete the Kerb and Guttering on the Newtown Road to Bucknell Street, provided the Road Trustees give £20 towards the work”. Carried.

Moved by Alderman Bedford, seconded by Alderman Hobbs, “that the Mayor be authorised to make arrangements with present contractor (Mr Selby) to carry out the work at a cost not exceeding six shillings per lineal yard”. Carried.
