Council Chambers 17th December 1872.
Present the Mayor and Aldermen Henderson, Conley, Goodsell, Bedford and Smith.
The minutes of previous meeting were read, and confirmed on the motion of Aldermen Henderson and Bedford.
1. Letter from Mr Jones respecting the drain through his property Kingston Ward. Moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Aldermen Goodsell, “that the letter be received and referred to the Committee for Works for their report”. Carried.
2. From Mr R. Carlton asking the Council to kerb and gutter a portion of Richard Street. Moved by Alderman Henderson, seconded by Alderman Bedford, “that the letter be also referred to the Committee for Works for their report”. Carried.
3. From Mrs Dickson asking the Council if they would be willing to join the Road Trust and assist in erecting, in front of her property, a brick or stone foundation and weatherboard fence on top. Moved by Alderman Bailey, seconded by Alderman Smith, “that the Clerk reply and inform Mrs Dickson that the Council cannot comply with the request contained in a letter”. Carried.
The Finance Committee brought up a report of accounts paid under votes of appropriation amounting to £579/9/4, and recommending payment of accounts amounting to £21/0/0. Moved by Alderman Henderson, seconded by Alderman Goodsell, “that the report be received and adopted”. Carried.
Newtown railway bridge:
Moved by Alderman Henderson, seconded by Aldermen Smith, “that the Mayor with Aldermen Smith, Goodsell and the mover, be appointed a deputation to wait upon the Hon the Minister for Works and urge upon that gentlemen the necessity of completing the Newtown railway bridge and that Mr S. C. Brown, and Mr H. Knight, Trustees of the Main Road, also Dr Tucker (Mayor of St Peters) be invited to attend with such deputation”. Carried.
The Council then rose.
