Revision Court
A special meeting of the Council was held on the evening of the above day at seven o’clock for the purpose of holding an open court to revising the municipal lists of the electors who appear entitled to be enrolled on the Council rolls for Enmore, Camden, Kingston and O’Connell wards for the ensuing municipal year.

Present
The Mayor and Aldermen Howe Salmon Smith, Ibbotsin, Elstub,Morgan, King

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and signed

There being one application to be inserted viz J. A. Chuck occupier of a house in Newman Street £25. It was moved and seconded that the name be inserted. carried.

It was moved by Alderman Smith that the list laid on the table for the Kingston Ward be adopted and signed. seconded by a Alderman Elstub and carried.

Moved by Alderman Morgan that the list laid upon the table for Camden Ward be adopted and signed. Seconded by Alderman Howe and carried.

It was moved by Alderman Ibbotsin that the list laid on the table for Enmore Ward be adopted and signed.
seconded by Alderman Morgan and carried.

It was moved by Alderman Salmon that the list laid upon the table for O’Connell Ward be adopted and signed. Seconded by Alderman King and carried.
The business being concluded the Council rose

Tuesday 22nd January 1895

A meeting of the Borough Council of Newtown was held pursuant to motion on the evening of the above day at half past 7 o’clock.

Present
The Mayor (Mr Wm Rigg) and Aldermen, Howe Salmon Cox, Parker Ibbotsin Elstub,Morgan and King

of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and signed

Correspondence
From Mr Greville manager of the A J L bank at Enmore complaining of the nuisance caused by the cab men leaving their people stand and making a cabstand immediately in front of the bank premises. Received and a letter be sent on to the Metropolitan Transit Commissioners with a request from the Council to have the nuisance abated.

From Mr George Davison complaining of a nuisance from a pipe drain passing underneath his home in Campbell Street to Richard Street etc. Also a report from the overseer of Works in reference to the subject. Received and referred to the Works committee for report.

From the secretary to the Railway Commissioners in reference to the removal of the tramway waiting room at Newtown Bridge stating that the present waiting room cannot be altered and that the railway waiting room could not be allowed. Received and it was resolved that a deputation wait upon the Commissioners with a view to something being done to improve the accommodation for tramway passengers.

From the Colonial Secretary suggesting that the Council will cause all properties at present subject to an annual rate to be valued in the assessment of the present year at the unimproved capital value to enable the government in prepairing a comprehensive measure of municipal reform to so fix the maximum rate on the unimproved value as to leave the Council as regards revenue in at least as good a position as it is at present. Received and it was resolved that the Council clerk supply the information as soon as he can conveniently do so.

From the Works Department in reference to the reimbursing the Council for the cost of constructing a stormwater sewer in Union, Harold and Angel Streets stating that the Secretary for the Public Works is unable to accede to this request. Received and it was resolved that a deputation from this Council, the Erskinville Council and the members for Newtown wait upon the Secretary of Public Works to lay before him the whole circumstances of the case with the view to obtaining the reimbursement.

From the Metropolitan Water and Sewage Board intimating that all the surfaces of the streets and lanes which had been reinstated by the boards contractors had been restored etc. Received and referred to the Works committee for report.

Reports
Lighting Committee
reported recommending the removal of a lamp in Angel Street to corner of the Bridge in Erskinville Road and an additional lamp to be put up in Angel Street. Also that a signboard which now obstructs the light from a lamp in Lennox Street be raised so as to prevent the obstruction. Adopted on a motion by Alderman Cox seconded by Alderman Parker.

The Overseer
reported the progress that had been made with the various Works under his care during the last two weeks. Received.

The Inspector of Nuisances
reported the amount of work done in his department during the last two weeks and that the contractors under his supervision were doing their work in a satisfactory manner. Received.

Motions pursuant to notice

Alderman Morgan moved
1 “That the specification committee prepare a specification for a supplier of ballast for Alice Street and submit the same at the next ordinary meeting of Council.” Seconded by Alderman Cox and carried.

2 “That tenders be invited by advertisement for ballast to be delivered in Alice Street to be opened and considered at next ordinary meeting of Council.” Seconded by Alderman Cox and carried.

3 ” That 118 yards of the kerbing and guttering be laid in the north side of Norfolk Street at an estimated cost of £35/8/0. ” Seconded by Alderman Cox and referred the Works committee for report.

Orders of the day.
To open and considered tenders for the making of the annual valuation.
It was moved by Alderman Smith “that the Council do now resolve into a committee of the whole to open and consider tender for making the annual valuation for the ensuring municipal year” with open (changed to closed and signed in the margin by the Mayor) doors. Seconded by Alderman Salmon. An amendment was moved by Alderman King that the words “open doors” be omitted from the resolution with a view to insert the words ” closed doors” (changed to open doors and signed in the margin by the Mayor). The amendment was lost and the original motion was carried

In committee the tenders were opened and considered and on the Council resuming the Mayor reported recommending first:- the adoption of the specification submitted by the specification committee and second the acceptance of the tender of Messrs Mulholland and Land to do the work for £43. And moved that the report be adopted seconded by Alderman King and carried.

The business being concluded the Council rose
